Friends have always gained marks for humour, loyalty and wit.
Now, it seems, they also merit a tog rating.
Scientists have discovered that standing near to a close friend feels almost as good as being wrapped up in your duvet. They found people felt up to 2 Celsius warmer when standing 2ft away from someone they were emotionally close to, and colder when they were with a person who did not share the same interests.
One theory is that the link has evolved over time based on the warth of an infant's closeness to its mother soon after birth. As a result, we associate warmth with happiness, friendliness and safety.
That's one reason why i kept all my good friends around :)
